This is Qatar's answer to "The Palm" in Dubai. Let's just hope it doesn't go the way of the dodo, like The Palm, as there is a very high vacancy ratio, and all of the construction is not yet complete. In actual fact, it is a beautiful setting that has been dredged from sea, giving rise to a myriad of highrise condos, and a real - or simulated, whichever applies - "Venice" complete with meandering water streets connecting townhouses and villas. All of the new city is constructed in a series of concentric circles, like a string of pearls tossed onto the ocean.

It is located on West Bay, affording beautiful views of the city skyline on the other side of the bay. The public areas feature stunning high-end stores, like Rolls Royce, Parisian haute couture. According to my sources, no rent is charged, as developers and owners use them as an attraction ploy. For the general public, there are a few restaurants and coffee shops alongside an engineered quay where yachts the size of QEII may dock at their leisure. A great place for leisurely strolling on a weekend afternoon, but not so great for shopping - the prices are beyond belief, and even entering the stores along the way are only for the rich and famous, or for the purely brazen.
My favourite place - a peaceful oasis in the middle of the madding crowd.
